These specimens are extremely rare and account for only a small percentage of opal production. A very limited supply of opalised fossils is available for purchase.
Opalised fossils, like most other Australian opal, are found around the margins of an inland sea that covered about a third of Australia 110 million years ago, during the Cretaceous period.
Opalised fossils from South Australia and from White Cliffs in NSW are of marine (saltwater) animals, while opalised fossils from Lightning Ridge are from plants and animals that lived on the land, or in freshwater or estuarine creeks, rivers and billabongs around the edges of the inland sea 110 million years ago.

The Australian Inland Sea is still there - under the harsh outback land - it is the Great Artesian Basin.
Above that is the Lake Eyre Water Catchment.
To restore the ancient Inland Sea and bring back the fish, crabs and wading birds we only need to fix the ridiculous banking, taxing and law.
Bring in the engineers..
With good government Australia would use surplus electricity from the Port Augusta Power Station and from Wind Turbines to pump sea water into a high level dam in the Flinders Ranges to be used for Hydro Electricity to sell at peak load times.
The sea water exhausted from the scheme would run into Lake Torrens and on to Lake Eyre.
A permanent inland sea would form to put water into the blistering hot air.
There would be fewer out of control bush fires in Victoria, NSW and South Australia.
In years to come the level of the Lake Eyre Catchment would be established by cutting an outlet to Port Augusta.

Today I had the first day off for all past month! I didn’t want to do

Hot or Cold? Where to live?
To stabilize the Global Climate we need adventurous people to live in the hot Australian Outback and in the Permafrost of Russia, Canada, Alaska, Denmark, Norway, Iceland and Greenland.
Australia is easy, but the Governments are doing nothing to put more water in the dry center. We need some big investors to show the color of some big money and Permatricity Limited will then just do it. There is a gigantic profit here.

The Methane is already escaping from permafrost in Russia, Canada, Alaska, Denmark, Norway, Iceland and Greenland. And Methane is escaping elsewhere from land fills and sewage works. I will call all of this methane, 'Wild Methane'
Mined methane is safe while locked in the ground and while being used, so I leave mined methane to those already involved.
Wild Methane is our danger, we must catch it and use it. Permatricity Limited will specialize in marketing Wild Methane.
Now for the Big Profit!
25% of Earth's land is permafrost! We select beautiful sites close to sources of Wild Methane and catch that Wild Methane to use and to sell. We create Permafrost tourist resorts featuring ice and snow. The buildings use Permatricity Limited's New International Patent Application No.PCT/GB2008/050647, Wind Management Structure, to generate electricity on site. Back-up electricity is generated from on site Wild Methane engines.
To attract tourists and permanent residents, the lifestyle atmosphere of Surfers Paradise and Dubai is used as a guide. Instead of kitesurfing we would see kiteskiing on level snow. Adventure tourists would Kiteski from resort to resort - this would be exhilarating backpacking! The rest of us would watch in awe.
Engineers will develop all types of Wild Methane engines for local use and for export sales. Tourist trains, boats and buses will use Wild Methane. Special emphasis will be placed on flying cargo planes on Wild Methane. The cargo planes need not be fast.
Seacoast
Tuvali and Happisborough are two starting places. The biggest cost to save the land is the positioning of the rocks to copy the Clacton-on-Sea sea defenses. The loss, if the defenses are not installed, will be everything.
To pay for the rocks, electricity will be generated for sale with vertical axis wind turbines, mounted in my PCT/GB2008/050647, Wind Management Structures.
The rocks will be the foundations for the wind deflectors that in turn contain hotels, residences, shops, cafes, etc. The whole concept is a modern version of seaside piers of more than a century ago.
Just as there is a huge amount of permafrost land to select from there is a huge amount of sea coast to select from. Instead of natural evolution being our enemy we embrace the changes as a friend - we live amongst the waves as well as amongst the snow and ice. Life will be beautiful and exciting.

Do you remember when you were David Tonkin's Press Secretary, my 1982 proposal, to flood Lake Eyre to increase outback evaporation, rainfall and dew?
If John Bannon had not won the 1982 election, and my Opal Lands Waterway had proceeded, there would be fewer droughts and bush fires.
Perhaps Australia is now ready to reduce the extreme dryness that causes uncontrollable fires?
Blaming arsonists is a red herring. Bad leadership is the prime cause. The attachment is the email I sent them.

Ion Idriess wrote of a 'horseshoe of lakes', Dr Bradfield of the Sydney Harbor Bridge proposed the Bradfield Scheme. In 1982 I proposed the Opal Lands Waterway to the Tonkin South Australian Government. The 1983 Bannon Government rejected the idea.
I subsequently spent the following years living in the area, and researching.
The Governments can make a profit by putting sea water into the Lake Eyre Region. There is no excuse for such disastrous droughts and bush fires; they are the end result of many years of bad governments.
I now live in Essex UK as an OAP and will consult with Federal and /or SA Governments for travel expenses only (no fee).
I will be happy to attend meetings with Government Officers in London, Canberra and/or Adelaide at short notice.
